Community Engagement Sponsorships
Connect to target audiences by supporting one of the following Community Engagement Activities at the Clarence Brown Theatre:
Open Captioned Performance – The CBT offers one open captioned performance during every production run in our season. The Open Captioned performance includes, a text display of all the words and sounds heard during a production – very similar to closed captioning on your TV. The CBT is the first professional producing theatre in Tennessee to provide this service.
Deaf Night at the Theatre – We provide a barrier-free theater-going experience for our Hard of Hearing and Deaf community members. In addition to four live interpreters during the performance, we also station interpreters at the box office, concession stand, and usher stations.
Pay What You Can Performance – In an effort to make theatre accessible to everyone in our community and beyond, we offer patrons an evening for each of our productions where they can attend the performance for any price they choose.
Season for Youth Student Matinees – Each year, several of the Clarence Brown Theatre’s productions include Season for Youth Student Matinée performances scheduled during the regular school day. Available at drastically reduced rates for school groups, these performances engage and expose youth to the wonders of live theatre and help inspire and build the next generation of theatre lovers/patrons.
Shakespeare in Shades is a summer theatre and reading program for rising 6th grade students attending Vine Magnet Middle School and selected return students. Students spend half the day in reading instruction, learning about reader’s theatre and William Shakespeare, and the other half of the day is focused on working together to stage an adaptation of a middle school novel.
Summer Acting Workshops – The CBT offers high school students intensive training in acting technique, voice, movement, improvisation, and musical theatre. The popular program now offers two weeks of training in each of our two summer sessions. Led by our Outreach and Education Coordinator and taught by our faculty and graduate students, these workshops expose students to the techniques and talents of an amazing array of working professionals.
A Day for Community – The CBT provides an evening of free theatre, including a talk back, for a targeted audience comprised of community members identified through our partnership with the Knoxville Area Urban League in order to engage and invest in area under-served communities.
Military/Veteran discount (Blue Star Theatre) – As a member of Blue Star Theatres, the CBT continues to welcome U.S. military personnel, spouses and children as well as U.S. veterans. In recognition of our commitment to the military personnel in our community, we are proud to offer discounted tickets to active-duty military and their immediate families, as well as returning veterans for all CBT productions.
CBT Family Feast – Investing in the family unit, the CBT Family Feast offers community members an opportunity to gather for dinner before seeing a performance at the CBT. Working to honor and instill a sense of ownership and pride we offer $10 tickets, which includes a buffet style dinner and admission to a CBT production, to everyone who attends as a family unit, however they may define “family unit.”
We are eager to discuss your marketing and hospitality needs so that we may custom create a benefits package that will highlight your commitment to a flourishing cultural scene in Knoxville, bolster your status in the community and offer you a myriad of hospitality and entertainment opportunities.
