Each year artists from the Clarence Brown Theatre teach workshops in area schools covering topics in acting, voice, movement, design, and technology. Whether it’s a classroom discussion about careers in the Theatre or a primer in Shakespeare for the Theatre we love to talk about our art with interested and engaged audiences.

Season for Youth Each year, we offer Student Matinees during the regular school day. Available at reduced rates for school groups, these performances engage and expose youth to the wonders of live, professional theatre and help inspire and build the next generation of theatre lovers!

Shakespeare in Shades Shakespeare in Shades is a summer theatre and reading program for rising 6th grade students attending Vine Magnet Middle School and selected return students. Students spend half the day in reading instruction, learning about reader’s theatre and William Shakespeare, and the other half of the day is focused on working together to stage an adaptation of a middle school novel.

Acting Workshop The CBT Acting Workshop is designed to give young actors training in several different skills: basic acting technique, voice, musical theatre, and movement and improvisation.

Tours and Workshops The UT Department of Theatre and the Clarence Brown Theatre offers Workshops designed to assist area ELA and Drama Teachers with curricular and/or production support from departmental faculty members and artists who are in residence at the state of Tennessee’s only LORT Professional Theatre. Workshops can be done either Virtually or In-Person (post-Covid-19).

Theatre Thursdays CBT Theatre Thursdays is a new digital initiative designed to help bring theatre education to the East Tennessee Community. This program aims to provide enriching cultural and educational content to our area youth and lifelong learners who are looking for ways to stay artistically engaged.
