John is an Associate Professor in the Department of Theatre at the University of Tennessee. Before joining the UT faculty, John was a Director and the Resident Movement Director for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival for fifteen seasons. Prior to his residency at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, John was a Director and Movement Director for the Illinois Shakespeare Festival for twelve seasons, and served as the Festival’s Artistic Director for five seasons. Recent directing credits include The Whipping Man, RED, Fuddy Meers, Woyzeck, Oedipus the King, Love’s Labour’s Lost, All My Sons (Clarence Brown Theatre); Henry VIII, King John (Oregon Shakespeare Festival); The Man in the Iron Mask, Julius Caesar (Shakespeare Santa Cruz); Othello (Illinois Shakespeare Festival); and The Year of Magical Thinking, The Hollow (Milwaukee Rep). In 2011, John received the College of Arts and Sciences Award for New Research, Scholarly, and Creative Projects in the Arts and Humanities.
