James Marvel is thrilled to be returning to the Clarence Brown Theatre! James received his M.F.A. from UT in 2000 and appeared as an actor in productions of The Threepenny Opera, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Oresteia, and The Seagull. James has directed over 100 productions and was named Classical Singer Magazine’s “2008 – Stage Director of the Year.” In 2014, James directed soprano Kathryn Frady in the world premiere of Larry Delinger’s Amelia Lost for Marble City Opera in Knoxville. The production was named “Most Memorable Operatic Performance of 2014,” and will be performed by Frady this summer at the Opera in the City Festival in London, England. Career highlights include productions for Lincoln Center, New Orleans Opera, Opera Boston, Opera Santa Barbara, Austin Lyric Opera, San Antonio Opera, Kentucky Opera, Virginia Opera, and Santa Fe Opera. International credits include work in Canada, South Africa, South Korea, Italy, France, and Belgium.
