John is a Professor in the Department of Theatre at the University of Tennessee. Before joining the UT faculty, John was a Director and the Resident Movement Director for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival for fifteen seasons. Prior to his residency at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, John was a Director and Movement Director for the Illinois Shakespeare Festival for twelve seasons, and served as the Festival’s Artistic Director for five seasons. Recent directing credits include: Titus Andronicus, I Am My Own Wife, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Whipping Man, Red, Fuddy Meers, Woyzeck, Oedipus the King, Love’s Labour’s Lost (Clarence Brown Theatre); Henry VIII, King John (Oregon Shakespeare Festival); The Man in the Iron Mask, Julius Caesar (Shakespeare Santa Cruz); Othello (Illinois Shakespeare Festival); and The Year of Magical Thinking, The Hollow (Milwaukee Rep).
